FIFPro Secretary General Visits SAFPU On his way to the FIFPro Africa Division Congress in Namibia, the Secretary General of the World Players’ Union, FIFPro, Theo Van Seggelen, visited the South African Football Players Union offices on Monday, 22 June 2015. Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe, the General Secretary of SAFPU, showed him around the offices and introduced him to the staff. The Secretary General engaged, in a Question and Answer (Q&A) fashion, with former and out-of-contract professional footballers on the financial well-being of footballers before the SAFPU on the Money Workshop with Old Mutual commenced.
He touched on a few issues, especially those unique to South African footballers. Mr Van Seggelen proceeded to honour an interview with SAFPU TV, a television programme will be aired on TV soon. Later in the day, the SG had late lunch with the stuff and leadership of SAFPU. The South African Football Players Union was honoured to have the Secretary General of FIFPro in our offices.
The SAFPU Team Will Travel to Witbank for a Friendly Match against Witbank Spurs 23 players selected from the 2015 SAFPU Winter Tournament for out-of-contract players will form a SAFPU Team that will play a string of friendly matches this pre-season. The SAFPU Team will play against PSL and NFD teams in attempt to create a platform these players to attract employment from PSL and NFD teams. Tomorrow, 4 July 2015, the SAFPU Team will play against Witbank Spurs at Puma Stadium in Witbank at 10AM. The team will be coached by former professional players and now qualified coaches, Cyril Nzama and Victor Nhlapho
